Federal Virtual World Challenge 2012 - Holodecks

Lyr's Holodeck December 2011
Holodecks and learning simulations are the theme of the 2012 Federal Virtual World Challenge. To make it easy for educators who teach in a variety of virtual worlds, this submission helps educators who do not know how to design Holodecks learn to use and to add their 3D scenes, games and objects to it.

Lyr Lobo's Holodeck

Lyr's Holodeck includes instructional material on Holodeck Design, a set of full permission scripts and examples from a tutorial on how to build and texture objects as well as a presentation space set in a room that looks like the universe.

The scripts extend the work by other open source designers, such as Newfie Pendragon's Builder's Buddy, and the educational rezzers designed by Spinoza Quinnell and Apollo Segall, who are currently working on the design of Unity3D games and nonlinear games set in Virtual Harmony.

The goal is to establish an open source educational holodeck system for use in a variety of virtual worlds. The Holodeck's scene design can include one or more linked set of objects and be textured to fit the environment. The Lamp Tutorial demonstrates the use of 6 linked sets of objects in a single Holodeck scene.

Limitations for size and rotation can vary, and testing is in progress to evaluate them within the Military Open Simulator Enterprise Strategy (MOSES) project on the Ephemeral regions. One version of the Universe includes a 20x20x30 meter build.
